If your vehicle takes conventional oil, it’ll probably need an oil change every 3,000 miles or every six months. Most vehicles built in the last 10 years run on synthetic oil. It’s designed to last longer and requires an oil change once a year or every 7,500 miles.
Signs You Need Your Brakes Replaced
A lot of parts go into helping your car slow down. Some components are even designed to be replaced every few months. To make sure your vehicle can stop safely, check for the following signs when you brake:
- Squeaky Brakes – The infamous sound is actually by design. It means that it’s time to get your brake pads replaced.
- Pulling – If your car drifts to one side when you step on the brakes, it may mean that there’s a problem with one of your brake lines.
- Sinking Pedal – A clear sign that you’re low on brake fluid is when you step on the brakes and the pedal feels like it’s slowly sinking.
- Vibrating Pedal – When the pedal feels like it’s vibrating, that can be a sign of a cracked or warped brake rotor.
How To Check Your Tire Pressure
To check your tire pressure, you’ll need a tire pressure gauge. There a few different styles of gauges, ranging from modern electronic ones to old-school gauges that look like a pen with a metal cap on top.
Once you’ve found the tire pressure gauge that you’re most comfortable with, checking your tires is easy. Follow these five steps:
- Find the recommended PSI for each tire, either in your owner’s manual or a on a sticker located in the door frame or by the gas cap.
- Check your tires either before you drive or several hours after you’ve driven.
- Find the valve stem on the tire and unscrew the cap.
- Connect the tire pressure gauge to the valve stem.
- Check the reading, write down the result, and compare it to the recommended PSI.
