2020 Pilot vs MDX: Interior Features
The 2020 Pilot and 2020 MDX are designed with your comfort and convenience in mind, which shows in the interior of both vehicles. Whichever way you slice it, you’ll have more available passenger space in the Pilot, though.
The Pilot seats up to eight people (seven with 2nd-row captain’s chairs), while the MDX only fits seven (six with 2nd-row captain’s chairs). You may appreciate having the extra capacity when it’s needed most.
The Pilot’s 3rd-row seat, with 31.9 inches of legroom, is also more adult friendly than the rearmost seat in the MDX, which offers just 28.1 inches (30.9 inches when the second row is slid forward).
Though the variation may seem small, it may make the difference between “kids only” seats and those that fit adults, too.
Under the Hood: Performance Specs
The Honda Pilot and Acura MDX are propelled forward by very similar engines. Each offers a 3.5L V6 that puts out just over 260 lb-ft of torque as well as roughly 280 to 290 horsepower. With those numbers, you’ll have no problem conquering the highways around Gulfport, Long Beach, and Biloxi.
As evenly matched as these two SUVs are in terms of performance, it’s worth noting that test drivers have found the MDX’s standard 9-speed automatic transmission slow to shift at times. The Pilot’s standard 6-speed automatic has earned a better reception (and a 9-speed is available in the Pilot if you prefer).
You’ll find plenty of flexibility in the 2020 Pilot or MDX, given their standard 60/40 split-folding rear seats. However, there’s no way around the fact that the Pilot simply has more passenger volume.
The Pilot blows the MDX out of the water, by offering up to 153.1 cubic feet of passenger volume. The MDX only offers 132.7 cubic feet.
