2020 Honda CR-V vs Subaru Forester
A versatile SUV can help you carry lots of cargo around Gulfport, Long Beach, and Biloxi. Dependable options like the Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester can also offer you great performance and safety on your next family road trip.
Which one of these trusted compact SUVs is right for you? Pat Peck Honda hopes to help you decide with this 2020 Honda CR-V vs. Subaru Forester comparison.
2020 CR-V vs 2020 Forester: Performance
The 2020 Honda CR-V is powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine with turbocharged technology and direct fuel injection for optimized power and fuel economy. This lets it get up to 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque.
The transmission working with this smart engine is a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with Sport Mode.
Together, the CVT and direct injection technologies make the 2020 Honda CR-V a fuel-efficient SUV by getting up to an EPA-estimated 28 city/34 highway MPG in all its trim levels.*
The 2020 Subaru Forester has a similar engine, but it isn’t capable of the same kind of power. It runs on a 2.5L SUBARU BOXER® 4-cylinder engine that gets up to 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.
The standard transmission is also a CVT. However, it delivers a slightly less EPA-estimated 26 city/33 highway MPG.
Honda CR-V vs Subaru Forester: Cargo Room
Both the 2020 CR-V and 2020 Forester are capable of towing up to 1,500 pounds. What separates them is how much cargo room they have on the inside.
The Honda CR-V has a trunk with 39.2 cubic feet of space while the second-row seats are upright. If you need more space, you can nearly double that with the easy fold-down 60/40 split rear seatback.
Loading your cargo when you’ve got your hands full is easier, too. With the available hands-free access power tailgate, there’s no more digging for your keys. Just wave your foot in front of the sensor and start packing up.
The Subaru Forester also has lots of cargo room, but it falls a little short. With the back seats upright, there’s only 35.4 cubic feet of space in the trunk.
There’s a trade-off with its cargo area, though. It also has an available power rear gate, but it’s not available on the base trim. For every trim level above the standard one, the cargo area shrinks down to 33 cubic feet with the seats up.
CR-V vs Forester: Infotainment
On the dashboard of the 2020 Honda CR-V, there’s an available 7-inch display audio with electrostatic touchscreen. Here, you’ll find the available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™, plus Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® for conveniently taking calls.
There’s more than navigation and phone access here, though. You can also get great entertainment options like SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, Pandora®, Android Auto™, and Apple CarPlay®.
The 2020 Subaru Forester has a standard STARLINK® 6.5-inch Multimedia Plus screen on its dashboard. This system gives you navigation and Bluetooth® capabilities, as well, but it doesn’t offer as many options for entertainment.
